Emem earned her undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina Greensboro with a major in Elementary Education and double minored in Communication Studies and Family and Human Development Studies. She went on to obtain her Master’s in Elementary Education in 2011 from Campbell University and graduated magna cum laude. Emem started her teaching career in 2009 with Harnett County Schools as a kindergarten teacher. She also taught Pre-K for 3 years in the private schools. In 2014, Emem returned to the public school setting in Durham, NC where she taught kindergarten at WG Pearson Elementary School. She was recognized for exceeding growth in 2017-2018 in reading. She has received the model classroom award and has had the privilege to be co-grade level chair since 2016.
Emem is currently completing her principal residency at Oakview Elementary School. Emem started her residency year at Oberlin Middle where she was the virtual academy coordinator and supervising administration for the intervention and equity committees before transferring to Oakview Elementary.
When she is not working Emem loves spending time with her friends and family. She is a loving wife of 9 years and is the mother of 3 beautiful children, Kaleo (7), Kyrie (4) and Zemira (2). She also loves running, reading, singing and taking road trips. Emem can be reached at [email protected].

EMEM THOMPSON IS A FELLOW IN THE NC STATE PRINCIPAL FELLOWS PROGRAM
The North Carolina State University (NCSU) Principal Fellows program is an all Principal Fellows cohort program that prepares school leaders to work in North Carolina public schools. The program includes a merit-based scholarship loan while the Fellow completes the Masters of School Administration program at NC State. The program involves a year of academics and a year of full-time administrative internship. Upon completion of the two-year Principal Fellows program, Fellows will be prepared to lead North Carolina Schools. NCSU Principal Fellows Class 26 began the program Summer 2019 and will graduate in May 2021.
